Description
Agarwood (primarily Aquilaria malaccensis) is a medium-to-large evergreen tropical tree growing up to 20–40 meters tall. Famous for producing “oud”, its valuable dark resinous heartwood develops as a defense response to fungal infections or physical injuries.Physical CharacteristicsHeight & Trunk: Grows up to 40 meters high with a straight trunk up to 80 cm in diameter.Bark: Smooth to slightly peeling, colored dark to pale grey with a cream-white inner bark.Leaves: Leathery, oval-oblong, 6–12 cm long, with smooth edges and a pointed tip.Flowers: Small, fragrant, yellowish-green or dirty-yellow clusters.Fruits & Seeds: Woody, flattened egg-shaped green capsules containing pear-shaped seeds covered in orange-brown hairs.
